Kelsea Perkins, Owner

I was born three months early in Arkansas, The Natural State. My mother was newly eighteen when I was welcomed into the world, so I knew little and to be slow. I have a younger sister who is three years younger than me, and we occupied ourselves most of the time, which we spent much of outside, on our land or my grandparents’. I loved the water and the woods close. At the age of thirteen, my mother, sister, and I moved to rural Southern Kentucky. A couple of years later, my sister and I were brought into the foster care system. This journey brought me to start at Western Kentucky University, where I attended for all four years and studied Diversity and Communities Studies, a more professional way to state minority politics. The Gender & Women’s Studies course and my wonderful professor led me to the amazing, fulfilling industry of birth-work. She provided perfect resources and answered all of my questions concerning the tragedy that is our current medical system and therefore, their treatment of all birthing people, especially minority identities. It changed my soul, hearing and reading this reality. . . Since then, I knew I would become a Doula.

Nashville, Tennessee has been home to me for more than five years now. In spring of 2024, I signed to East Nashville Doulas as an active DONA certified Birth and Postpartum Doula!

My Approach

“Here is [a] very important truth: how a person is cared for and supported during birth is a major influence, not only in how they give birth but also in how they feel about the birth for years to come” (Simkin, 2018).

Medical care before and after childbirth focuses on the physical safety of the baby and the birthing person. The level of comfort and relationships the birthing person shows have massive significance to the journey of childbirth.

You and your baby deserve to be cared for in all ways possible.

Birth is special. So are you.
